Damneet Singh became the first Indian ever to win a medal at the U-18 World Athletics Championships when he won silver in the hammer throw on Friday but his achievement is yet to make an impact on him. Our sister site espn.in brings you his story.

A reminder: New Zealand's performance in key matches at world events is something India would do well to take note of. At every ICC event since 2012, they've gone in as one of the favourites, but have somehow found ways to capitulate. At the 2013 World Cup, the captain, Suzie Bates, destroyed bowling attacks to finish with the Golden Bat, but was left inconsolable after a loss to West Indies upset their hopes of reaching the final. At the 2014 World T20, they were cruising after wins in their first three games but were edged out of the semi-final race after a loss in their final league match. At the 2016 World T20 too, they were firmly in command in the semi-final but faltered under pressure. Here, they looked like chasing 200, but now have to gun down 265. Enough pressure? This is a real test.

2:27 pm India will be happy with 265. It's more than the 250 that looked their target at one point. A very positive approach from Mithali Ray today, after criticism of her strike rate in the previous game. She came in at a difficult time early on, but the aim was runs. Another monster innings from the Indian captain, and it has anchored two crucial century stands at the start and the end of the innings. Kaur was batting too low down the order, and her 60, although not fluent, did the job. And then, that blitzkrieg from Veda. Superb slog-overs batting - clean hitting, clear thinking, and good results. A knock she won't forget and one that the management won't either. Remember, she wasn't an automatic starter when the tournament began. New Zealand made a great start for a team that elected to field, but lost control towards the end. They didn't have their strike pace bowlers available in the end of that innings, and you've got to wonder if that has cost them extra runs. We'll be back with the chase soon.

Kasperek to Pandey, OUT, smart catch at deep midwicket. Good couple of balls for Satterthwaite out on that boundary. This is tossed up from around the wicket and she gets a big connection after stepping out. The slog is high and it's well hit, but Satterthwaite is calm under this as she arches back to take the catch

Kasperek to Krishnamurthy, 1 run, OUT, rush of blood from Verma and that's the end of Veda. She looked to ramp this fine, but there wasn't enough pace. Got it off the toe and into the midwicket region. Verma hared back for the second that was never there. Veda was hesitant, then responded and even got a chance as the fielder coming into the stump at the striker's end failed to collect. But the keeper, backing up, was at hand to underarm-flick onto the stumps. A brilliant, brilliant ODI innings. If you ever wanted impact, that was it.

Kasperek to Krishnamurthy, 2 runs, good length, a step forward to unleash a slog sweep. This goes square. Deep square leg is on her toes as she runs along the line to account for the bounce and then pushes it back into play

Kasperek to Raj, OUT, holes out to deep midwicket. Reaches out after stepping down the track. Pushes in front of her body and lifts this leg side ball up and into the hands of deep midwicket. This is the first time she's getting out after making a hundred

Kasperek to Raj, FOUR, oh, that's the way. Everybody inside on the off side. Steps out and lifts this length ball from off stump, to the extra cover boundary

Kasperek to Krishnamurthy, 1 run, flighted full outside off, steps out but beaten for pace. Swings too early, thick inside edge to deep midwicket
